Referee recertification

All referees must be certified for the current year in order to work USSF-affiliated games, including SASA games. USSF referees are certified for a period of one year. You must attend five hours of training and pass a recertification test in order to continue officiating in USSF-affiliated leagues and tournaments.

There are no waivers granted for failing to recertify. If you don't have a current year badge, you do not officiate. The fact that SASA is a recreational league does not negate this requirement.

Referee clinics

Fredericksburg area clinics for Grade 8 snd 9 referees wishing to recertify and for Grade 9 referees wishing to move up to Grade 8 are listed on the RSRA web site. In addition, the state referee office maintains a complete data base of recertification classes for all referee grades.

You can register (and pay for) referee clinics online. First you must register as a current referee: you will be asked for you last name and your birthdate. Your registration should then appear. Next you must pay the current fee. You may pay online or bring a check to the class you will attend. Print out your receipt to bring to the clinic.

The next step is choosing a clinic. The list of clinics shows you the start date and the end date of the class. You will not see all the clinic information until you choose a clinic. When you do, please read all the information in the comment section. This section gives you all the times and locations of the clinic. Next you must pay the clinic fee. You may pay online or bring a check to the class you will attend.

Note that the payment is split into two parts, one for referee registration, the other for the clinic itself. Yes, that is different. But that's the way they're doing it. Print out receipts for both your referee and clinic registrations, and bring them with you to the clinic.
